Wikimobs are an innovative and unique teaching model, combining elements of media literacy education, video production, and traditional curricula. Wikimobs are an important part of the videoonwikipedia.org and the Lights Camera Wiki projects. In this workshop, we will teach by doing, running our own Wikimob and demonstrating how educators can conduct programs like this in the future.
In a Wikimob, specialized instructors pair with experienced Wikimedians to both teach a subject area and simultaneously improve that area in the Wikimedia projects. So a Wikimob focusing on submarines might pair a naval expert, a class of naval history students, and 10 hours of video footage about submarines for 2 days of collaboration. Working together, the members of this Wikimob will learn as they improve the encyclopedic entries about their topic.
We have yet to select a topic, but we would like to work in collaboration with Polish Wikimedians and local archivists to find a topic and video content that is both usable and relevant to Eastern Europe. We can do both English and Polish language entries, though we will need to work with the [pl] administrators in advance to turn on video capabilities in that wiki.

Resources For the workshop, we would need a room to support about 50 people, a number of volunteers, and 12 laptop computers with video editing software. If attendees bring their own, we can install the software for them. We would also need whiteboards or construction paper for group activities. Ideally the workshop room would also have A/V, though wifi is a must. Also for the workshop, we will need to consult with the event organizers or local Wikimedians to find a suitable topic for the Wikimob.
