When designing new user experiences data can be a powerful tool to inform and inspire. You can use data to identify opportunities, to understand a complex system, and to draw inferences & insights from aggregate behavior. In this talk I'll share several stories of how product teams at LinkedIn, Yahoo!, and eBay have used analytics to improve decision making and inspire new ideas. We'll also look at the 2009 Wikipedia Fundraising effort and how analytics helped the fundraising team and provided transparency to the community. We'll end by discussing some of the cultural, policy, and technical hurdles in making the Wikipedia development process more data informed.
